International Baccalauret

Researcher Profile: Research Interests and Motivations

The researchers, Monica Lizeth Castro Prada and Sofía Moreno Ducuara, seek to evaluate the effectiveness of the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) in preparing students for higher education. His interest lies in analyzing how this program influences the development of critical and creative skills compared to conventional educational programs. In addition, they aim to provide valuable information to educators and policymakers on the impact of the IB on academic performance and university preparation.

Updated Research Question and Objectives

Research Question:

What impact does the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) have on the preparation of students for higher education at the La Felicidad Educational Institution in Bogotá?

General Objective:

Investigate the effect of the International Baccalaureate on secondary education, evaluating its effectiveness in the development of critical and creative skills in students.

Specific Objectives:

Evaluate the relationship between participation in the IB Program and academic performance in higher education.

Determine the factors that affect the effectiveness of the IB Program in preparing students for higher education.

Compare the academic results of students who completed the IB Program with those who did not.

Summary of the Justification of the Investigation

Research on the effectiveness of the IB Program is crucial because higher education requires critical, creative and adaptive skills that go beyond general education. Evaluating the IB will allow educators and policymakers to determine the extent to which this educational framework provides the necessary skills to face academic challenges.

Although the IB promotes critical thinking and inquiry-based learning, there are not enough systematic studies on its impact on students entering higher education, especially in the Colombian context.

In addition, the findings of this study can be useful to improve the implementation of the IB, report on possible adjustments in the methodology and evaluate its alignment with the needs of universities in Colombia and abroad. Research will not only benefit IB students and teachers, but can also influence decision-making in national educational policies, promoting a more comprehensive and equitable educational system.
